Research Laboratories
Department of Marine Sports is the research home for a number of faculty members who study a variety of issues related to the sport science of human movement. The research has a wide domain including sport medicine, athletic training, sports biomechanics, motor learning/control, and sport/exercise psychology.
Department of marine sports research laboratories are comprised of the Sport Science Laboratory and Sport Social Science Laboratory as well as several individual laboratories in which faculty work to accomplish their research goals.
Sport Science Laboratory
The Sport Science Laboratory (Faculty: Dr. Kim) is studying sport medicine, sport physiology, biomechanics, especially as it relates to health and disease. A primary mission of the Sport Science LAB is to investigate specific physiological and biomechanics mechanisms underlying the human movement and improving human health and athletes performance across the lifespan.
Sport Social Science Laboratory
The Sport Social Science Laboratory (Faculty: Dr. Song) is studying sport psychology, physical activity, and motor learning/control, especially as it relates to health and disease. A primary mission of the Sport Social Science LAB is to investigate specific psychological well-being and ill-being mechanisms underlying the positive health effects of physical activity. Based on the neuroscience, our LAB is studying neural, behavioral and synergistic mechanisms responsible for human movement and include the application of motor learning and control principles to understanding neurological problems of the patients with PD and cerebellar disease.
